The Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258 CE)

  • The Abbasids overthrew the Umayyads and moved the capital to Baghdad. This period is often considered the "Golden Age" of Islam due to its intellectual, cultural, and scientific advancements. Baghdad became a hub for learning, philosophy, medicine, and trade. The Abbasid Caliphate eventually weakened due to internal strife and external invasions, such as the Mongol sack of Baghdad in 1258.
