2. The Umayyad Caliphate (661-750 CE)
- The Umayyads were the first dynasty to rule the Muslim world, moving the capital to Damascus. They extended the empire from Spain in the west to India in the east, forming one of the largest empires in history. They were known for their administrative and architectural advancements, such as the construction of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
